| Anguish Languish is a silly way of speaking whereby you substitute like-sounding words for the real words you are trying to say, for example, "English Language" = "Anguish Languish", or "Sing A Song of Sixpence" = "Sinker Sucker Socks Pants"! Anguish Languish was the brainchild of Howard L. Chace, who published all of his translations in the 1956 book called, oddly enough, Anguish Languish. Chace translated many of our favorite nursery rhymes and fairy tales into Anguish Languish, including Little Red Riding Hood (Ladle Rat Rotten Hut), Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Guilty Looks Enter Tree Beers), and Peter Piper (Pitter Paper). Thanks to Kevin Rice, you can see the entire text of Chace's book at... http://www.justanyone.com/allanguish.html If you Google Anguish Languish, you will find many other websites celebrating the work of Peter Chace - be sure to read aloud! |
